iOS 4.1 Released – Do Not Update If Jailbroken

On September 9, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

Very quickly has come the release of iOS4, there is not many major changes but the main one comes in the form of the new game centre. Its a bit like an intergration of what the console systems have, it allows you to add friends and play multiplayer games over wifi and 3G

Once again stay away if you wish to remain jailbroken, I personally dont think the Game Centre is enough of an upgrade to warrant loosing your jailbreak!

Make sure you back up your SHSH blobs just in case you do upgrade by mistake

iOS 4.0.1 and iPad 3.2.1 out now – DO NOT UPDATE

On July 15, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

iOS 4.0.1 has been released and it all seems a little bit fishy! There looks as if there is no modification’s to the firmware other than the stability of the signal bars, although the jailbreaking community have said that they think this is so they release their jailbreak and unlock so Apple can immediately patch it with 4.1

Stay well away and I would advise you to back up your shsh blobs!

Update for Signal Issues Coming!

On July 2, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

Today Apple have released a letter or statement if you like all about the iPhone 4 signal issue, they claim that the reason for the drop in signal is a fault in the formula they use to calculate signal. To fix this they are going to release an update for iOS4 to hopefully cure all signal trouble. They say

Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.

So fingers crossed this will sort all the issues with the poor signal on the iPhone 4 and hopefully people will stop referring to it as a massive fail, after all it is the most successful product launch in the history of Apple

iOS4 Is Released

On June 21, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

iOS4 Has now been released via iTunes and should be available for download right now! There has been reports of quite a few people having problems with updating their iPhone’s to this update, I’m not quite sure yet if it just user error or if it actually is a bug. I think majority may be to the huge download demand on the Apple servers. As always if you have a jailbroken iPhone do not update as there is no current jailbreak out for this release and do not update to iTunes 9.2 as it is causing issues with some jailbreaks

I wont be updating to this as I sold my iPhone to fund my early upgrade to the iPhone 4 which hopefully will be with me this thursday :D

iTunes 9.2 Released – Do Not Update

On June 17, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

If you have not yet jailbroken your device and have iTunes 9.2 installed already, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO JAILBREAK. Your device will go into an infinite boot loop

Along come another iTunes update and along comes more worries for jailbroken users, first whats in the update. All that we have been told is that it is preparing iTunes for the release of the new iPhone 4 and the new iOS4 and that is the main focus, which is strange as I would of thought that this would be alongside the release of the new iPhone.

Anyway down to business, as you can see in big bold writing at the top do not attempt to jailbreak your iPhone with iTunes 9.2 installed as it will constantly boot lopp which means it will just keep trying to turn on, fail, turn off, turn on, fail, turn off………… you get the idea

PwnageTool or RedSn0w are reportedly not having any issues with the 9.2 iTunes but majority of spiritJB users are so I would suggest to stay away from this nasty version of iTunes while you are jailbroken and a safe way forward come out

iTunes 9.1.1 Safe To Update?

On April 28, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

Today an iTunes update has been released, it looks as if it is safe to update but usual advice goes out to all jailbreakers to not update as it may cause problems with future jailbreaks

MuscleNerd the developer of “spirit” which will jailbreak possibly OS 4.0 tweeted

In general, those using *any* userland JB should avoid iTunes updates, since iTunes can detect & remove it.

Today’s 9.1.1 iTunes is safe for PwnageTool&redsn0w. But those hoping to use userland JBs (like Spirit) should hold off.

End Of The Road For 2G iPhone?

On April 15, 2010, in News, by iPhoneRadar

After 3 years in the market it has been announced that the OS 4.0 update will not work on 2G iPhone’s and that the previous update may have been the last. Steve Jobs Apple’s CEO was emailed earlier in the week and asked if the device would see any future updates and he promptly replied “sorry, no”

Original iPhone users were also left out of MMS and video recording which were included in the OS 3.0 update, and now it seems as if this is the end of the line for the 2G iPhone. This is expected to see the price of the 2G iPhone now plummet on sites like Ebay where they had been holding up in value for quite sometime

All this does make me think, will we see this many alterations within the iPad? It already looks as if they are creating a second version with a camera in, this may be something to keep an eye on
